Farm is a family owned lavender farm located in the Santa
Ynez Valley in Los Olivos Ca. We grow the original Grosso
variety lavender, its oil is known for its many healing
qualities and Provence lavender for both culinary and
oil. The fields are beautiful with the backdrop of the
Santa Ynez Mountains. Three hundred year old oak trees
dot the grounds. Filmmakers, photographers and painters
arrive each year and apply their craft. The driveway is
lined with olive trees that were planted by the Spanish
Missionaries over 175 years ago.
farm is entirely organic. We harvest both with the traditional
method of cutting each plant by hand, banding, and hanging
the bundles in the barn (for sale in the shop year round)
and also with a small hand held hedge clipper for the
remainder of the fields to be used for oil distillation.
The cut is sun dried, thrashed, sifted and steam distilled
in copper here on the farm. The resulting oil is organic,
highly concentrated, and sweet because it has been made
with low temperature in copper (see "distill process"
on the "lavender info page for more information).
The process may be seen on You Tube under Clairmont Farms
Distillation. Lavender has been used for centuries, lavender
is the best-known herb for its medicinal and healing properties.
